Biber, l’ange gardien

A spiritual and musical journey around the captivating Rosary Sonatas of Heinrich Biber.
A mystical and virtuosic work of the 17th century, each sonata evokes an episode from the life of Christ and the Virgin, blending baroque fervor, profound expressiveness and technical daring.

Hyperballads

Combining the theorbo, a typical instrument of the Baroque era, with the trumpet of a jazz master, and harnessing the infinite possibilities of computer technology and electronics, is the new challenge David Chevallier has set for himself. Hyperballads aims to be atmospheric and chamber-like, exploring timbres, breaths, and textures. For this original and intimate program, David Chevallier has chosen to collaborate with Geoffroy Tamisier, a subtle musician and refined soloist, creating a repertoire that highlights the resonance of the theorbo and the velvety sound of the trumpet.

Dans le salon de Beethoven

At the end of the 18th century, the quintet for pianoforte and winds emerged as a new form of chamber music, fostered by developments in instrument making and the growth of private musical practice. Combining the pianoforte with the then-flourishing wind quartet—oboe, clarinet, horn, and bassoon—this ensemble offered a particularly varied palette of timbres.

This concert juxtaposes two works published in 1810, at the crossroads of classicism and romanticism: the quintets of Beethoven and Danzi. Between concertante writing and chamber music dialogue, these works bear witness to the refinement of chamber music at the dawn of the 19th century.

Souffles sacrés

Between Bohemia and Austria, this program revives the brilliance of wind ensembles in the early 19th century. Druschetzky's Mass in B-flat major is juxtaposed with Franz Schubert's luminous Deutsche Messe. The voices of the Sainte-Anne-d'Auray Choir blend with the colors ofStradivaria winds octect in a single musical breath, for a celebration full of fervor and light.

Jeux de dames, un portrait de l'amour

Most of the pieces in this program are veritable musical portraits that depict the world, things, and people. Let's allow Couperin to speak for himself on this subject: "I always had a subject in mind when composing these pieces: different occasions provided it; thus, the titles correspond to the ideas I had." A beautiful introduction to let us be surprised, charmed, and swept away!

Bach, father and son

We know Johann Sebastian Bach for the unique cycle of cantatas he wrote in Leipzig and his second son Carl Philip Emanuel who was Kapelmeister at the ThomasKirche in Hamburg; however, their production of instrumental music holds a very important part in their respective lives.

Johann Sebastian was interested in the violin, for which he left us the famous solo Sonatas & Partitas and the magnificent trio Sonatas with harpsichord, such as BWV 1017 & 1019 in this program.

Carl Philip wrote for keyboards, organ, harpsichord, clavichord… often with accompaniment; this is the case of the ''Freie Phantasie'' in F# minor.

It is their chamber music production that particularly interests us here, offering a kind of comparison of the writings of the two musicians and the style of each.
